In the cannabis community, April 20th is one of the most exciting days of the year. However, for those who don’t explicitly smoke weed, 4/20 isn’t going to feel all that thrilling.

But, why not? Contrary to popular belief, there are many ways to celebrate 420 when you don’t actually smoke flower.

We know, we know: it sounds a bit funny, but cannabis is such a versatile plant, and you can enjoy it in so many ways.

So, on this weed-themed holiday, if you don’t want to sit down and roll a pre-roll or smoke a bowl, you don’t have to!

Here are some of the best ways to celebrate 420 without lighting up some cannabis flower.

What is 420?

First thing’s first: what is 4/20, and where does that number come from?

You may have heard a few different stories about the origin of 420, but the most validated story comes from a San Rafael high school in the 70s.

Five high schoolers met every day at 4:20 to smoke weed and celebrate the end of their school day. Over time, 420 became a smoking code for these boys, called The Waldos, and it continued far beyond their high school days.

Eventually, one of the boys went on to become a roadie for The Grateful Dead, spreading the word of their smoking code 420.

Soon, other Deadheads caught on, and it was common to light up at 4:20 at Grateful Dead shows.

At one point, Deadheads were passing out fliers inviting fans to smoke on April 20th at 4:20. The flier got into the hands of High Times magazine reporter Steve Bloom, which piqued his attention immediately.

Bloom ended up publishing the flier he received, and the idea of using 420 to symbolize a time for smoking quickly picked up traction in the 90s.

Since then, the number became synonymous with cannabis, and April 20th has been cannabis lovers’ favorite day of the year ever since. Now, more people than ever celebrate 420 — even if they don’t explicitly smoke weed.

What to Expect on April 20th

If you live in a legalized state, you can expect to see quite a bit of activity in your area.

Local dispensaries tend to offer incredible deals that bring more sales than other days of the year.

In fact, a lot of shops choose to offer deals all week long leading up to 4/20, helping you enjoy various products, from concentrates to flower and everything in between.

With these great deals, you’ll quickly see how many more options you have than just smoking weed. (Though, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with smoking.)

Speaking of deals, Elevate Holistics is having our own 420 celebration! On April 20th, first-time patients will receive a whopping $42 off their appointment price — making getting a medical marijuana card easier than ever before.

Don’t be surprised if your regular dispensary is a bit busier than usual. After all, this is the community’s favorite day of the year! If you’re worried about time, you can always order products online and then go pick them up if your dispensary allows.

Legalized states may also celebrate 420 by hosting certain pop-ups, events, or gatherings depending on the plant’s popularity in the area.

How to Celebrate 420 Without Smoking Weed

While smoking cannabis is a staple of 4/20, not everybody has the luxury of being able to smoke.

For some, the act of smoking or inhaling cannabis is too much. But that’s where so many other products come into play. Here’s how you can still fully enjoy and celebrate 420 without smoking any flower.

CBD Products

Not everybody wants to get high from their cannabis products. Luckily, as we’ve discovered more about the marijuana plant, we’ve learned that certain cannabinoids are not psychoactive whatsoever.

CBD-based products, for example, are aimed to provide therapeutic, medicinal effects to the average consumer. There are no intoxicating components! Instead, you just take these products to help you feel your absolute best.

Stocking up on CBD products is a great way to celebrate 420 when you don’t smoke weed. These products will likely be discounted, and you’ll be able to try methodologies you may not have been able to yet.

Use this time to try something new within the CBD world! Maybe you want to check out some CBD edibles or CBD tinctures during this green spring day. Or, you can relax with an at-home spa day by purchasing some CBD bath bombs. The choices are endless.

Regardless, we can almost guarantee your favorite dispensary will have some great CBD products for you to try during the cannabis holiday.

Edibles

If you want to get high but don’t want to smoke, 4/20 is a great day to get your hands on some edibles. Edibles produce hours-long highs that are great for a holiday like 420— as long as you have the day off.

Nowadays, edibles are far more than just some cookies and brownies, though those are great, too.

On April 20th, check out a weed-infused beverage or maybe something savory like chips or beef jerky, if you’re lucky. Seriously, you can find cannabis-filled edibles and drinkables in so many different forms.

Don’t be afraid to check out a few other dispensaries on 420 to get exactly what you want. Plus, they’ll probably be on sale, anyway.

Tinctures, Topicals, and So Much More

Maybe you don’t want to spend your whole day glued to the couch. That’s fine, too!

Products like THC tinctures or THC bath bombs allow you to soak in different benefits of the cannabinoid without experiencing as intense of a high as you would with an edible.

With THC topicals, it’s essential to establish that you cannot get high. The THC can’t cross the blood-brain barrier to get into the bloodstream and cause psychoactive effects.

Instead, something like a THC bath bomb will provide strong therapeutic effects like pain relief, relaxation, and probably some super-soft skin.

On the other hand, you add a few drops of a THC tincture into your food or right under your tongue, and you get full psychoactive effects. Taking it sublingually will help produce results within minutes, while adding it to your food will take quite some time to kick in.

Regardless, tinctures allow you to get full intoxicating effects in a measured dose— all without smoking. Turning to these products are a great way to celebrate 420 in a brand-new, slightly non-traditional way.
