Benefits of Having a Medical Card in Michigan
Access to Top-Shelf Marijuana
You’ll get immediate access to the best marijuana strains carefully bred to provide ideal results.
The Michigan medical marijuana control program tests all marijuana plants and marijuana-infused products to ensure they are up to specified standards before being transported to the dispensaries.
State Reciprocity
Although the law does not allow Michigan dispensaries to accept MMJ cards from out-of-state patients, one of the benefits of getting a medical marijuana card in Michigan is that you might be able to use it in other states.
Legal Protection
Having a Michigan marijuana card keeps you on the safer side of the law. If you encounter a law enforcement officer while having amounts within the possession limit, you can show them your card to indicate that you have an active registration with OH MMCP.
Your card is an indication that you have the right to possess, transport, and consume marijuana within Michigan.

Can Minors Get Medical Cards in Michigan?
Yes, if you’re under 18, you can still get an MMJ card, but you’ll need a caregiver to complete the registration process, purchase cannabis, and so forth.
Typically, for minors, caregivers tend to be a parent or guardian. The registration process is pretty identical for minors as it is for adults, however, the caregiver will be the one filling out the information and registering on their behalf.
Unfortunately, Elevate Holistics doesn’t currently offer appointments for minors in the state of Michigan.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is marijuana legal in Michigan?
Yes, both recreational and medical cannabis are legal in Michigan currently. Michigan first legalized medical cannabis way back in 2008, and then a decade later, the state legalized recreational weed for adults 21 and older.
What documents are needed to get your medical marijuana card in Michigan?
To apply for a Michigan medical marijuana card, you’ll need a few different documents to prove legitimacy. First, you will need to fill out and complete the state’s application form.
You’ll also need a Physician Certification Form — which is in the Application packet. This is the form your doctor will fill out to certify that you have a qualifying medical condition.
Michigan also requires proof of MI residency. This can be a copy of your valid Michigan driver’s license OR your valid Michigan voter registration. (Keep in mind that if you use your voter registration, you’ll also have to submit proof of identity through any government-issued document demonstrating your name and date of birth.)
What are the reasons to get a medical card in Michigan?
There are plenty of reasons that people choose to get a Michigan medical marijuana card. Primarily, though, having a medical card allows for various benefits that adult-use cannabis simply doesn’t offer.
For example, MMJ is going to cost you much less, as patients only have to pay a 6% sales tax for their product, while recreational consumers are subject to a 10% excise tax on top of the 6% sales tax. This makes adult-use cannabis much more expensive than MMJ.
How much does a medical marijuana card cost in Michigan?
Luckily for you, a Michigan medical marijuana card isn’t going to break the bank. The application fee for the card itself is only $40. Your doctor’s appointment will vary depending on where you go, but places like Elevate Holistics offer our services at low, affordable rates. You can book a first-time appointment for $105, or for $95 if you’re on Medicare or are a veteran.
Can I be a medical marijuana caregiver in Michigan?
Yes, you can! Medical marijuana caregivers must be at least 21 years old and have never been convicted of any violent or drug-related felonies. Along with this, primary caregivers cannot have committed any felonies within the last ten years.
To become a caregiver yourself, you must meet MI’s requirements. From there, a patient has to submit either a complete Application Packet or a complete Add or Change Caregiver Form that designates you as their caregiver.
Along with this, you’ll present your valid state ID or personal ID card to prove identification. Then, you’ll wait for approval!
How much MMJ can you possess in Michigan?
If you have a Michigan medical marijuana card, then you can possess up to 10 ounces of cannabis at one time.
Recreational consumers can only possess up to 2.5 ounces, with no more than 15 of those grams being cannabis concentrates.

Can you grow marijuana at home in Michigan?
Growing medical marijuana in Michigan is also legal for both medical and recreational consumers. Medical patients can cultivate and harvest from up to 12 cannabis plants in their homes.
Recreational consumers can grow up to 12 plants at once; however, you cannot cultivate more than 10 ounces at home. Both recreational and medical consumers must keep their plants in locked, enclosed spaces inaccessible to the public or minors.
Does Michigan offer medical marijuana reciprocity?

How Long Does It Take To Get a Card in New York?

Can Minors Get Medical Cards in New York?
Yes, those who are under 18 years old can also get a New York medical marijuana card; however, they cannot do so on their own. They must have a caregiver (typical parent or legal guardian) register on their behalf, visit dispensaries, purchase products, and even administer the products themselves.
