In the world of medical marijuana, you have to be at least 18 years old to get an MMJ card on your own. But, if you’re a minor or have a child that could benefit from medical cannabis, you’re not out of luck.

As long as there is a parent or adult guardian to apply on your or your child’s behalf, minors can obtain their medical marijuana cards. Of course, there are a few caveats to this, and there’s a lot you need to know before booking an appointment to get a minor an MMJ card.

Luckily for you, Elevate Holistics is now accepting appointments for those under 18 years old in Missouri. If you’re interested in learning more about getting a medical marijuana card for minors — or even booking an appointment — we’ve got the information for you.

Understanding Medical Marijuana for Minors

The phrase “medical marijuana for minors” might be a bit worrying for some parents, but there’s no reason for it!

If you’re getting a medical marijuana card for your child, they don’t have to consume high-THC products, or even THC products at all. Instead, you can always turn to high-CBD or pure CBD products that won’t cause any intoxication. This is 100% highly urged for young ones, as consuming THC too young may cause later-in-life complications.

It’s also important to note that once your child has an MMJ card, they can’t just stroll into a dispensary willy-nilly and buy products. That’s actually your job!

Minors are required to have a parent or guardian be their cannabis caregiver. Essentially, this guardian will be the one to apply for the MMJ card, visit dispensaries, purchase products, and even administer cannabis if necessary. Your child never even has to step foot inside the dispensary.

Truly, medical marijuana for minors can be life-changing (just think about Charlotte Figi’s story). However, the process of getting your child an MMJ card can be a delicate one. That’s why Elevate Holistics is here to make it easier — and more welcoming — than ever before.

Getting a Medical Card for Minors in Missouri

So, how do you go about getting a medical marijuana card for minors in Missouri? With Elevate Holistics’ help, of course.

It’s important to note a few things about this process. According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services…

  • Anyone up to 18 years old qualifies for an appointment
  • Parent/Guardian must be present for the appointment
  • The state application will include additional documents that your typical MMJ appointment wouldn’t:
    • If the minor doesn’t have a government ID, the parent/guardian’s ID must be used, instead. (This includes ID type, ID number, and a photo of the ID.)
    • The parent/guardian must sign an additional consent form.
    • You must provide a document showing your relationship with the patient. This could be a birth certificate, adoption records, legal guardianship paperwork, etc.
  • The parent/guardian must pay an additional $25 fee to be the patient’s caregiver, on top of Missouri’s $25 state fee.

The Steps

Once you have all this information gathered, you’re ready to book your appointment. With Elevate Holistics, you can do this right from the comfort of your home.

You’ll start by booking your appointment here, and selecting the Minor appointment type. Then, once it’s time for your actual appointment, you will log on either on your computer or phone to meet with your MMJ physician. Again, both the patient and parent/guardian must be present.

From there, the doctor will talk to both the guardian and the patient about medical conditions to see if they qualify for MMJ.

If they do, then our physician can set them up with a recommendation, and you can start registering with the state. (Or, you can let us handle that for you by selecting the full-service add-on. Just saying.)
