How to Get a Medical Marijuana Card in Maryland: Your Step-by-Step Process
Getting a Maryland medical marijuana card online may be easier than you think — especially when you turn to Elevate Holistics.
Elevate Holistics makes the process quick, painless, and completely hassle-free. Plus, you don’t even have to leave your house.
If you’re interested in reaping all the benefits of having your Maryland medical marijuana card, here’s our simple three-step process on how to get your own.
Get Approved and Register With the State
The first step to getting your Maryland medical marijuana card is registering as a patient with the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission. You can do this through their registry portal!
To create an account, you will need a valid email address. Once you have an account set up, you can complete your registration online.
In order to complete your registration, you’ll need to provide proof of Maryland residency, a government-approved photo ID, and the last four digits of your Social Security Number. You’ll also need a passport-quality photograph, which will go on your medical marijuana card when it’s eventually sent to you.
After you have submitted an online application, you will get a verification email. You will need to click the link in this email in order to submit your application.
If you don’t click this link, the state will not process your application.
Get Approved and Register With the State
After you’ve completed your state registration, you’ll have to meet with a qualified physician in Maryland in order to be approved for MMJ. And, if you’re unsure of where to do this, that’s where Elevate Holistics comes in.
Elevate Holistics has an entire team of Maryland physicians who are here to get you qualified and registered for the state. Our MMJ doctors are well-versed in the world of Maryland medical cannabis, and they’re qualified to answer any questions you may have about the process.
Our appointments last less than 30 minutes, so there’s absolutely no interruption to your busy schedule. That’s the Elevate promise.
If you’re approved, our doctors will provide you with a medical certification that states you qualify for MMJ in Maryland.
Get Your MMJ Card and Start Shopping!
Once you’ve received your medical certification, you must submit this to the MMCC. If you’re approved, they will send you an email with a link to your temporary medical marijuana card, which you can print out.
Your permanent Maryland MMJ card will be mailed to you just a few weeks later. That’s really all it takes!
Maryland Medical Marijuana Qualifying Conditions
According to the MMCC, qualifying conditions for a Maryland medical marijuana card include the following:
We are a team who believes in the medical benefits of cannabis; but, we’re also keenly aware that a large percentage of the population doesn’t know where to start on their cannabis journey. This is why we promise to treat every patient with respect, compassion, and love.
We’re all on our own journey and we promise to respect yours.
How Long Does It Take To Get a Card in Maryland?
The process to get a Maryland medical marijuana card can, unfortunately, be quite lengthy.
After you submit your initial application, you’ll need to wait for a follow-up email from the commission. This can take anywhere from 5 to 45 days.
Once you’ve gotten this follow-up email, you’ll be able to move forward and get your certification from a physician.
After this certification has been submitted, you’ll get your temporary card and you will be able to visit a dispensary. Overall, you should expect the process of getting a medical card in Maryland to take about two months.
Maryland Medical Marijuana Doctors
To get your written medical marijuana certification, you’ll need to visit a doctor who is registered with the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission. Not all doctors in Maryland are currently registered with the commission, although the state is currently pushing for more medical providers to join the program.
Elevate Holistics works with board-certified doctors who are registered with the commission and are familiar with medical marijuana. Our sessions are HIPAA-compliant and completely secure.
Not only will our doctors assess your condition and provide you with the written certification that you need, but they can also answer any questions you may have about using marijuana properly.
They can recommend the appropriate products and dosages for your condition and address any concerns that you may have.
Can Minors Get Medical Cards in Maryland?
Yes, minors can get a Maryland medical marijuana card! However, they just cannot do so on their own.
In order for minors to get their MD MMJ cards, they must have a parent/guardian register on their behalf. These figures will be referred to as “caregivers” in the medical cannabis system. A minor’s caregiver is responsible for visiting dispensaries, buying products, transporting products, and even administering products if need be.
Sadly, Elevate Holistics cannot provide appointments for those under 18 at this time.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, marijuana is legal in Maryland both for medical patients and those over 21 years old.
However, medical marijuana patients receive more benefits than adult-use consumers, including lower taxes, higher possession limits, and priority service.
To get your Maryland medical marijuana card, you’ll need to submit a digital copy of a valid photo ID. This can be a driver’s license, a state ID card, a US passport, or a military ID. If your ID does not prove your Maryland residency, you will need to submit two additional documents to prove that you live in Maryland.
You will also need to submit a high-quality photo that clearly shows your face on a white background. One of the best ways to get this photo is to use an app or service that takes passport photos.
Finally, once your initial application has been received, you’ll also need a written certification from a licensed medical provider confirming that you have one of the approved Maryland medical marijuana conditions.
People choose to get their Maryland medical marijuana card for various reasons; however, now that recreational cannabis is legal in the state, many people are realizing the immense benefits that come from MMJ over adult-use cannabis.
When you have your Maryland medical marijuana card, you have priority service over all other adult-use consumers. This means that if the state ever runs low on product, you’re going to be the one who is prioritized. This also means specific lines or dispensaries just for patients.
You also save a significant amount of money with an MMJ card. Adult-use consumers are subject to a hefty 9% tax rate on top of their cannabis products, while patients are exempt from sales taxes. This makes medical weed so much more affordable than adult use.
To create an account with the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission, you will need to pay an initial fee of just $25. This fee is non-refundable. Maryland is unique in that you only need to renew your medical marijuana registration every six years, instead of having to renew it every year. The renewal fee is $50.
You’ll also need to pay for your consultation with a medical marijuana doctor. It’s important to note that these sessions are not always covered by insurance. The cost will vary depending on what type of doctor you decide to see.
Elevate Holistics offers affordable online appointments that start at $130 per session.
