how to get a medical marijuana card online

Table of Contents

These days, you can do practically everything online — including getting approved for a medical marijuana card. And with Elevate Holistics, you can learn how to get a medical marijuana card online in minutes.

Here’s how we make the process more convenient than ever before.

Understanding Medical Marijuana Eligibility

Let’s talk about who is — and isn’t — eligible for medical marijuana in the first place.

High quality, low prices. Your card delivers both.

Having an MMJ card means paying less for your top-shelf bud -- and getting more of it.

Qualifying Medical Conditions

To be eligible for a medical marijuana card, patients must have a qualifying medical condition. These conditions vary by state, but common qualifying conditions include:

  • Cancer: Medical marijuana can help manage pain and nausea associated with cancer and its treatments.

  • HIV/AIDS: Patients often use medical marijuana to alleviate symptoms like chronic pain and loss of appetite.

  • Epilepsy: Medical cannabis has shown promise in reducing the frequency and severity of seizures.

  • Multiple Sclerosis: Patients with multiple sclerosis may find relief from muscle spasms and pain.

  • Parkinson’s Disease: Medical marijuana can help manage tremors and improve sleep quality.

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): Many patients with PTSD use medical marijuana to reduce anxiety and improve sleep.

  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease: Conditions like Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis can be managed with medical cannabis.

  • Neuropathic Pain: Medical marijuana is effective in treating nerve pain that is resistant to other treatments.

  • Seizures: Beyond epilepsy, medical cannabis can help with other seizure disorders.

  • Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS): Patients with ALS may use medical marijuana to manage pain and muscle spasticity.

  • Terminal Cancer: Medical cannabis can provide palliative care by alleviating pain and improving quality of life.

  • Terminal Illness: For those with terminal illnesses, medical marijuana can offer symptom relief and improve overall well-being.

Each state has its own list of qualifying medical conditions, so it’s essential to check with your state’s medical marijuana program to see if your condition is eligible.

How Old Do You Have to Be to Get a Medical Marijuana Card?

In order to get a medical marijuana card on your own, you must be at least 18 years old. You have to show identification and provide personal information to prove this.

However, minors are allowed to be medical cardholders, too! They just need permission from a parent or guardian. This guardian figure will also be the one to schedule the appointment, visit dispensaries, and buy products. Minors cannot do this on their own.

At Elevate Holistics, we can help minors in Missouri get approved for medical cannabis online. And, we’re working on doing the same for the other states we service.

When your appointment time arrives, you will follow the Doxy link in the next steps email that we sent to you. Here, you’ll chat with one of our MMJ doctors over the phone or computer (your choice.)

Typically, appointments only last about 15 minutes — meaning there’s no hindrance to your busy schedule. Registered patients can consult with licensed healthcare practitioners during these appointments. But, of course, you can ask our doctors as many questions as you need.

Having an MMJ card means paying less for your top-shelf bud -- and getting more of it.

Step Three: Register With the State Medical Marijuana Use Registry

Once our doctor approves you for medical marijuana, you will receive a virtual recommendation. This recommendation is what you use to register with your state’s medical marijuana program. Patients must be registered in the medical marijuana use registry to be eligible for medical marijuana use.

Here, you’ll need to create an account and follow the prompts that the program asks. Usually, you need to provide copies of your state ID, proof of residency, and your MMJ certification.

However, if all of this sounds like too much, you can let Elevate Holistics handle it for you. With our full-service add-on, our expert team will register you with the state for you. The only thing you’ll have to do is make your username and password.

This is what makes Elevate Holistics, well, holistic! We don’t just stop at MMJ certifications — we’ve got all of the canna-resources you could dream of.

Required Information and Documentation

To apply for a medical marijuana card, patients will need to provide the following information and documentation:

  • Proof of Residency: This can include a driver’s license, state ID, or utility bill to confirm you live in the state where you are applying.

  • Proof of Identity: Documents like a passport or birth certificate to verify your identity.

  • Medical Records: Documentation from your healthcare provider that confirms you have a qualifying medical condition.

  • Written Certification from a Qualified Physician: A recommendation from a qualified physician who is authorized to issue medical marijuana certifications.

  • Payment for the Application Fee: Each state has its own fee structure, so be prepared to pay the required amount.

Patients may also need to provide additional documentation, such as proof of income or health insurance, depending on the state’s requirements. It’s essential to check with your state’s medical marijuana program to ensure you have all the necessary documentation before applying.

How Much Does it Cost to Get a Medical Marijuana Card?

The actual cost of a medical marijuana card is going to flucuate from state to state and company to company.

For example, Elevate Holistics offers an Arkansas medical card renewal for just $80, while other companies charge anywhere from $100-$200.

Then, each state has its own medical card fee. Keeping with Arkansas, patients must pay an additional $50 to register with the state’s MMJ program. So, you must factor in the state fee when determining the overall cost of your card.

Thankfully, many states have begun removing their state fees entirely! This means, in places like New York, you only have to pay the cost of your appointment.

How Long Does it Take to Get a Medical Marijuana Card?

How long it takes to get a medical card depends on where you live. In some places, the process is nearly instant: for example, in Texas, once our doctor approves you, they send your certification straight to the Compassionate Use Registry of Texas. As soon as the registry gets it, you can start shopping for medical cannabis.

However, in many other states, the process can take several weeks, sometimes over a month. In places like Connecticut, on the other hand, the state can take up to 30 days to process your application before approving you for medical use.

So, you may have to be a bit patient! Thankfully, you can look up how long it takes to get a medical card in your state on all of our medical card page FAQs.

As the powerhouse behind Elevate Holistics, Aspen is on a mission to make medical marijuana access easier, faster, and way less intimidating. What started with answering phones and scheduling appointments turned into building one of the most trusted telehealth platforms in cannabis. She's certified through Cannabis Training University and Healer.com, but her real education? Listening to patients and living it herself. Aspen isn’t just running a company. She’s helping lead a movement. A cannabis patient, mom, and fierce believer in plant medicine, she’s working to normalize weed in a world that still whispers about it. Her take? If you can unwind with a glass of wine, you should be able to do the same with cannabis. No shame, no stigma, no side-eye. Inside the business, Aspen runs a tight ship built on the strong foundation already in place. She’s focused on making patients happy, improving systems, and finding smarter ways to work. Since taking the reins at Elevate Holistics, she’s streamlined turnaround times, improved tech, and introduced a four-day workweek to support team balance and performance. She believes burnout is out. Balance is in. And when teams feel good, they do great work. Outside of Elevate, Aspen mentors other entrepreneurs (especially women breaking into crowded spaces), helps patients feel seen and empowered, and occasionally jumps on a podcast to speak the truth about cannabis and leadership. You may have heard her on Getting Elevated with Aspen Noonan (CannaBlogger’s Corner) and The Healing Plant: Cannabis Myths vs. Medical Miracles (Life Conversations with a Twist) -  insights that dive deep into plant medicine, leadership, and breaking stigma. She also trained Arlee Riveland, now CEO of Craft Telemedicine, and she’s just getting started. Aspen’s not here to follow rules. She’s here to rewrite them. For healthcare. For cannabis. For women in business. And for her daughter, who she hopes sees every day that purpose, power, and balance can all belong in the same life.
