To qualify for medical marijuana in Mississippi, a resident must suffer from one or more of the qualifying conditions and be certified by a properly licensed doctor.

- Muscular dystrophy
- Multiple sclerosis
- Cachexia
- Post-traumatic stress disorder
- Positive status for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)

The initiative also allows for doctors to prescribe medical marijuana to those who suffer “another medical condition of the same kind or class to those above and for which a physician believes the benefits of using medical marijuana would reasonably outweigh potential health risks.”
