Qualifying conditions for medical card in Missouri

Table of Contents

As of July 1st, 2024, Missouri has officially updated its list of qualifying conditions for a medical marijuana card. And when we say updated, we mean expanded.

That’s right: now, more people than ever will qualify for medical marijuana in Missouri. So, what does this updated list of Missouri qualifying medical conditions look like?

We’ll tell you.

Missouri Qualifying Conditions Update

As we mentioned, at the start of the summer, Missouri’s Office of Cannabis Management sent out an update letting practitioners — and patients — know it has updated its qualifying conditions for medical marijuana.

The update expands the conditions from a static list to allow healthcare practitioners to recommend Missouri medical marijuana for a broader range of conditions.

Chronic pain now includes intractable pain as a subcategory, and new conditions such as anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, dementia, depression, insomnia, cancer with insomnia, and opioid use disorder have been added.

More than that practitioners can also select “other” if a condition doesn’t fit the predefined categories, giving greater flexibility for patient care.

So, Missouri’s list of qualifying conditions for MMJ has expanded — what exactly does this mean for patients? Let’s talk about that next.

What Does This Update Mean for Missouri Medical Marijuana Patients?

If you’re a prospective medical marijuana patient, this means that you now have increased cannabis access for a wider range of conditions!

Previously, only specific medical conditions qualified for cannabis use, but now, patients can receive recommendations for conditions that their medical marijuana doctors deem appropriate.

This update offers more personalized treatment options, particularly for those dealing with chronic pain, mental health disorders like anxiety and depression, or conditions that don’t fit neatly into predefined categories.

Not to mention, qualifying patients may experience streamlined care as practitioners have more flexibility in tailoring cannabis consumption to individual needs.

If you’re a current medical marijuana patient, don’t worry! Nothing will change for you. It isn’t until you have to renew your card that you’ll notice any sort of difference.

What Your Missouri Appointment Will Look Like

Qualifying conditions for medical card in Missouri

When you book with Elevate Holistics, your Missouri MMJ card appointment is going to look more streamlined than ever before.

Previously, as we mentioned, patients had to qualify for cannabis based on a strict list of pre-approved medical conditions. Now, it’s all up to the discretion of the doctor.

This means that when you meet with our medical marijuana doctor over the phone or computer, you two will simply discuss your medical conditions and how cannabis may be able to benefit you.

Then, our doctor will (more than likely) approve you, and you’ll get your recommendation within 24-48 hours.

It really is that easy to qualify for a Missouri medical marijuana card when you work with Elevate Holistics.

Common Qualifying Medical Conditions for a Medical Marijuana Card

The qualifying conditions for medical cannabis vary from state to state. But, knowing Missouri’s background — and what some common conditions are — we can let you know some typical qualifying conditions that may get you approved for medical marijuana.

These conditions include:

  1. Chronic Pain – Often related to conditions like arthritis, back pain, neuropathy, or fibromyalgia.

  2. Cancer – For pain relief, nausea, and appetite stimulation, especially related to chemotherapy.

  3. Anxiety Disorders – Including generalized anxiety disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

  4. Epilepsy and Seizure Disorders – Medical cannabis can reduce the frequency and severity of seizures.

  5. Multiple Sclerosis (MS) – To manage symptoms such as spasticity and pain.

  6. Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)/ Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) – For pain relief, nausea, and appetite stimulation.

  7. Glaucoma – To reduce intraocular pressure in the eyes.

  8. Crohn’s Disease and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) – For managing inflammation and pain.

  9. Insomnia – Medical cannabis may be used to help with sleep issues.

  10. Parkinson’s Disease – To address tremors, pain, and other symptoms.

  11. Opioid Use Disorder – As an alternative or adjunct therapy for managing pain and reducing opioid dependency.

  12. Muscle Spasms Cannabinoids like THC and CBD have muscle-relaxing properties, which can reduce the intensity and frequency of persistent muscle spasms.

The Benefits of Qualifying for a Missouri Medical Marijuana Card

You probably know that marijuana is fully legal in Missouri these days. That means you don’t technically have to have a Missouri medical marijuana card — however, being a medical marijuana cardholder brings you benefits that recreational consumers will never have.

One of the biggest benefits of having your Missouri MMJ card is how much money you’ll save. Recreational cannabis is subject to a higher tax rate, typically around 6% at the state level, with potential additional local taxes.

However, medical marijuana is taxed at a lower rate, around 4%. This means that you save money with every purchase you make. With this saved money, your card pays for itself within your first few dispensary visits.

It’s also worth noting that cardholders often receive medical-only discounts at dispensaries just for having their MMJ card. This results in even more saved cash on the highest-quality cannabis products possible.

So, if you want better weed at lower prices, getting your medical marijuana card from Elevate Holistics is the way to go. Plus, your card is valid for 3 years — so that’s a long time of saving cash.
