If you take a quick look at the MO medical marijuana qualifying conditions, you will notice that the list does not explicitly state anxiety as part of the medical conditions for a medical marijuana card in MO. But, still, can you get a medical card for anxiety in Missouri?

For states like Pennsylvania and North Dakota, the medical marijuana program clearly lists anxiety disorder as a qualifying condition.

However, for most other states, such as Colorado and Florida, the medical marijuana programs do not list anxiety, but patients can get approval to use medical marijuana for anxiety.

Is the same applicable in Missouri? Can you get a medical card for anxiety in Missouri? Also, can you get a medical card for pain?

Let’s look at the qualifying conditions and see how anxiety fits in.

Affordable weed? It's all in the card.

Having an MMJ card means paying less for your top-shelf bud -- and getting more of it.

Qualifying Medical Conditions in Missouri

The following are the qualifying medical conditions in Missouri, according to the Article XIV of the Missouri Constitution and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services patient information handbook.

      • A chronic medical condition typically treated with prescription medication

      • Hepatitis C

      • Huntington’s disease

      • In a doctor’s professional judgment, any chronic, debilitating, or other medical condition

      • Inflammatory bowel disease

      • Neuropathies

      • Psychiatric disorders (including but not limited to PTSD)

      • Sickle cell anemia

Looking at this list of MO medical marijuana qualifying conditions, it is clear that the law allows certified medical marijuana doctors to qualify patients for other Missouri medical marijuana conditions outside the list. So, can you get a medical card for anxiety in Missouri? What about for pain?

Can You Get a Medical Card for Pain in Missouri?

Yes, you can get a medical card for pain in Missouri. The DHSS qualifies patients who have any condition that causes them severe, persistent pain or muscle spasms for medical marijuana.

A state-certified medical marijuana doctor has the authority to diagnose you, determine if your condition causes you pain, and qualify you for a medical marijuana card.

This is notwithstanding if the condition is not on the list of Missouri medical marijuana conditions.

Don’t have or know a certified medical marijuana physician? Elevate Holistics provides access to medical marijuana doctors that can have a virtual consultation with you from the comfort of your home.

Can You Get a Medical Card for Anxiety in Missouri?

So, can you get a medical card for anxiety in Missouri, then? Actually, yes.

Although anxiety is not explicitly on the list of MO medical marijuana qualifying conditions, it, alongside depression and PTSD, counts as one of the psychological MO MMJ card qualifying conditions for most patients in the state.

According to the state’s constitution, patients can qualify for medical marijuana if they have Debilitating psychiatric disorders, including, but not limited to, post-traumatic stress disorder, if diagnosed by a state-licensed psychiatrist.”

The wording of this provision indicates that besides post-traumatic stress disorder, patients who have other mental health conditions can qualify for medical marijuana.

In the mental health category, some other conditions that qualify as MO medical marijuana conditions include:

        • Anxiety

        • ADHD or ADD

        • Depression

        • Other medical conditions similar to those listed above

All you need is for a state-licensed health practitioner to diagnose you, determine if you are dealing with anxiety or a similar condition, classify it as MO medical marijuana qualifying condition, and recommend you for a medical marijuana card.

Back to the question; can you get a medical card for anxiety in Missouri? The answer is a resounding yes.

You may have heard her on Getting Elevated with Aspen Noonan (CannaBlogger’s Corner) and The Healing Plant: Cannabis Myths vs. Medical Miracles (Life Conversations with a Twist) -  insights that dive deep into plant medicine, leadership, and breaking stigma. She also trained Arlee Riveland, now CEO of Craft Telemedicine, and she’s just getting started. Aspen’s not here to follow rules. She’s here to rewrite them. For healthcare. For cannabis. For women in business. And for her daughter, who she hopes sees every day that purpose, power, and balance can all belong in the same life.
