ToggleIf you have an Oklahoma medical card, you have to understand the possession limit regulations that come with it. So, how much weed can you buy in Oklahoma?
That’s a great question. Today, we’re looking into OK’s marijuana laws, how much weed (and concentrate) you can buy, and so much more.
What Do Oklahoma Weed Laws Look Like?
Oklahoma’s cannabis laws are pretty straightforward these days, albeit a bit strict.
Medical marijuana is legal in the state for qualified medical patients. Oklahoma legalized MMJ back in June 2018 and the program has been operating efficiently since.
Today, the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority has over 350,000 patients, making it one of the largest MMJ programs in the country.
However, the state has yet to legalize recreational cannabis, leaving many residents unable to access the plant they want and need. Thus, in the past several years, Oklahoma’s black market marijuana industry has exploded in popularity.
OK’s black market marijuana is not only low-quality, but it’s dangerous for those buying it, consuming it, and selling it.
Because of this, more and more MMJ doctors are urging Oklahoma residents to get their medical cards legally and enjoy the plant in safer avenues.
How Much Weed Can You Buy in Oklahoma?
If you do have a medical marijuana card, how much weed can you buy in Oklahoma legally?
Cardholders are allowed to purchase up to three ounces of marijuana flower at once from a dispensary.
Patients are allowed to have a total of eight ounces of cannabis in their private residence, though. You just cannot purchase or possess more than three ounces at once when you’re not home.
If you try to buy more than this amount in one day from a dispensary (or multiple dispensaries), they will stop you at the three-ounce limit. The state tracks your purchases, so you cannot hop from one dispensary to the next in hopes of stocking up, either.
Finally, it’s worth noting that medical marijuana cardholders in Oklahoma are also allowed to cultivate marijuana at home. According to the state’s regulations, patients can grow up to six mature plants and six seedlings at once.
So, if you really need to stock up on some bud, try growing plants at home, instead.
How Much Concentrate Can You Buy in Oklahoma?
Cannabis concentrates are different than cannabis flower — and the possession limits are different for them, too.
Concentrates are a very concentrated (heh, get it?) form of cannabis oil that you can consume in various ways. These products tend to have double, triple, or even quadruple the amount of THC in them than your typical flower, so they are more strictly regulated than other products.
So, how much concentrate can you buy in Oklahoma?
You’re allowed to purchase and possess one ounce of marijuana concentrate at a time and no more.
You do not want to be caught with more than this amount on your person, as there will be harsh legal consequences.
Possession of Marijuana Oklahoma Statute
Just so you’re familiar with Oklahoma’s views on cannabis possession — particularly for non-medical consumers — we’ve broken it down for you. This is what the possession of marijuana Oklahoma statute looks like.
In Oklahoma, the possession and sale of recreational marijuana are governed by the Oklahoma Statutes Title 63 §2-101, also known as the Uniform Controlled Dangerous Substances Act.
If you’re not a cardholder possession of recreational marijuana is completely illegal and can lead to a misdemeanor charge. This can result in a penalty of up to 1 year in jail or a fine of up to $10,000. Ouch.
Subsequent offenses or certain circumstances can lead to increased penalties, as well. Selling recreational marijuana is considered a felony, punishable by between 2 to 10 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $5,000. Smaller ouch.
So, if you’re worried about getting caught with your cannabis and you’re not a cardholder, the best choice is going to be getting your MMJ card.
You may have to pay for the appointment itself, but a $75 appointment is going to be much more affordable than a $10,000 fine — just saying.
Can You Order Weed From Another State?
Many people in Oklahoma wonder if there are other avenues to getting cannabis.
As we mentioned earlier, the Black Market is one (unfortunate) route some people take, while others are left Googling, “Can you order weed from another state?”
Sadly, no, you cannot order weed from another state and have it shipped to your home in Oklahoma. Shipping cannabis over state lines is federally legal, and you cannot do it even if you live in a legal state.
The only cannabis you can order online is hemp and hemp products.
Hemp is federally legal in the United States as long as it doesn’t contain more than 0.3% THC by weight.
Thus, you can order hemp flower and hemp-derived products legally to your home if you’re interested. However, shipping marijuana is 100% illegal.
