There are limits to how much you can purchase, have in your possession, and grow. So familiarizing yourself with the ever-changing laws is your responsibility as a cardholder.   You should have your card with you at all times if you are purchasing, or traveling with any amount of cannabis products. It has the necessary information about your license such as your medical marijuana license number, what type of license it is, and the expiration date.

What is the process to get my medical marijuana card?

Do you qualify for a medical marijuana card in Poteau, Oklahoma? Not everyone will be able to obtain an mmj card. You must be at least 18 years old. Patients under 18 can qualify with a parent/caregiver.

Thankfully the process of getting your medical card is simple in Oklahoma. You’ll schedule an appointment with a registered Poteau cannabis doctor, they’ll send your certification to the state and then you’ll complete an application through the online system.

You’ll find the online application on the OMMA website at omma.ok.gov

When creating an account you’ll need a valid email address. Once you’ve created your account you can then schedule an appointment to have your medical condition certified. This is the first step to being approved for your license.

Not sure who to make an appointment with?  The OMMA has a list of registered physicians on their website. But you can also schedule an appointment at Elevate Holistics as we offer convenient telehealth services. These in-home appointments are with a certified doctor and done from the comfort of your home.

If your medical condition is a qualifying condition the doctor will electronically submit the Physician Form to the state. You’ll have 30 days from this day to complete the application.

Minors and patients that need someone to help with purchasing or using medical marijuana can have two caregiver cards. The requirements for this are they must be over 21 years old and a resident of Oklahoma

Proof of Oklahoma residency can be an Oklahoma state driver’s license or Oklahoma identification card. If you do not have either you can use a current utility bill, Oklahoma voter ID card, residential property deed, or a current rental agreement.

Be sure to take your time filling out the application. If any information or documents are missing the application process will be delayed.  You’ll need to submit payment to complete the application. The standard cost is $100. If you’re not approved you will not get this money back.

If you are a 100% disabled veteran, qualify for Medicaid (SoonerCare), or Medicare enrollee you can get the application fee reduced to $20. You will need proof.

Within 14 business days from the submission date, you’ll receive an approval or denial letter. Your medical marijuana card will be included with your approval letter, and valid for two years.

But not all qualifying conditions are easy to determine on your own, such as chronic or severe pain, and various types of seizure disorders, severe nausea, terminal illness, or muscle spasms. The best way to figure out if you’ll qualify is through a certified Oklahoma doctor.

Frequently
Asked Questions

Medical marijuana has been legal in Oklahoma since 2018. This means that patients who have chronic injuries or illnesses can use marijuana with a recommendation from their doctor. To get your Oklahoma marijuanas card, you will need to go through the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority, or OMMA.

Many people wonder how to get a medical marijuanas card in Oklahoma. To do so, you will need to get an approval from your doctor prescribing marijuana as a treatment for a chronic illness, injury, or other health condition. You will also need to collect documents providing proof of residency.

Can you get a medical card under 18 in Oklahoma? The answer is yes, but it must be prescribed by your doctor and you will need to have a caregiver. A caregiver is a family member or an assistant who can go to the dispensary and monitor your medical marijuana use. Patients who are physically unable to visit a dispensary due to their health can also appoint a caregiver.

Since Oklahoma has legalized medical marijuana, many people wonder, is Oklahoma recreational as well? Oklahoma has not legalized recreational marijuana, so only people with a legitimate OMMA card can purchase and use marijuana. If you are caught using marijuana without a medical card, you could be subject to a fine and a misdemeanor charge. If you are caught with large quantities of marijuana or you are caught distributing marijuana, the charges could be even more severe.

Yes! You’ll pay $85 and that includes OMMA account set-up. If you’re 100% disabled, you get a steep discount and only pay $22.50 to the state at time of final submission.

If you don’t live in Oklahoma but are planning on visiting for an extended period of time, you might be interested in getting an Oklahoma out-of-state medical card. Oklahoma is one of the few states that allows non-residents to get medical marijuana cards. The Oklahoma House approved an extension of out-of-state medical cards in February 2021. This extension means that out-of-state medical cards now last for two years. The process of getting an out-of-state medical card is very similar to the process of getting an in-state one.

The OMMA OK program approves medical cards and manages the distribution of medical marijuana in Oklahoma. OMMA stands for Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority. Most aspects of the OMMA application process are managed online.

The OMMA approval time is typically less than 30 days from the time they have received your application. Keep in mind that this does not include the time it takes to go to the doctor and assemble the documents. There are some in which OMMA will ask for additional documentation, which can extend the approval time. Once OMMA has determined the status of your application, you will be notified by mail.
