ToggleJust when you thought you knew all of the popular cannabinoids on the market, a new one pops up. This time, it’s THCx.
Let’s get right to it: what is THCx? And, more importantly, should you try it?
If you’ve been with Elevate for a while, you know this isn’t our first rodeo with new, unregulated cannabinoids. You can read about our pieces on THCo and delta-8 for more.
So, What is THCx?
THCx is a new synthetic cannabinoid that’s about to permeate the cannabis industry.
Extractors make this compound by attaching a trio of organyl groups to the delta-8 THC compound. This creates something called delta-8 esters, which are colloquially known as THCx.
So, no, THC X is not a natural cannabinoid, nor will you find it in any trace amounts within hemp or marijuana plants. However, professionals utilize hemp plants to extract the compounds they need to create these cannabinoid esters.
In general, this cannabinoid is still very new, and many places aren’t yet selling products. This is because we don’t know a whole lot about THCx yet, and creating it isn’t very simple.
THCx Effects and Properties
When it comes to a new cannabinoid, we know what everyone is wondering, “What are the effects like? Does THCx get you high?”
As a synthetic cannabinoid that is the amalgamation of three parts of the delta-8 THC compound, it is no surprise that THCx is psychoactive.
Those who have tried the cannabinoid report the THCx effects as being similar to THC in terms of euphoria, relaxation, and even increased energy. This is because it connects to the body’s cannabinoid receptors, and interacts with the endocannabinoid system, similarly.
Others have found potential therapeutic benefits like being able to better manage their chronic pain or discomfort due to the potency of the compound. It may also stimulate appetite and affect sensory perception, like many psychoactive substances.
However, since we still don’t know a lot about the synthetic cannabinoid, that’s about all that we know regarding THC X effects and potential benefits. The compound isn’t super readily available yet, but once it is, we will be able to know about how it may feel and affect you.
Does THCx Get You High?
When it comes to psychoactivity, yes, THCx can absolutely get you high.
Because the cannabinoid is essentially an amalgamation of three forms of delta-8 in one, many people describe THCx as being about three times more psychoactive than delta-9.
Of course, this will vary from person to person, but the psychoactive effects of this compound are quite impressive, making it a good potential option for those with chronic conditions seeking something stronger than your typical delta-9 gummy.
Plain and simple, if you’re someone seeking a non-psychoactive compound, THC X is not the right one for you, as it will leave you stoned and giggly.
You should also keep in mind the psychoactive properties when considering future drug tests. Just like THC, THC X is going to affect the outcome of drug tests, showing that you test positive for the typical compound found in THC.
So, if drug tests are common in your workplace, or you have to test drug tests because you’re on parole, remember that THC X does produce psychoactive effects that will make you fail.
Potential Adverse Effects of the THCx Cannabinoid
Since we don’t know much about the THCx cannabinoid yet, it’s hard to say what the effects — and potential side effects — are.
The way the cannabinoid is created is newer, and the compound hasn’t been on the market long. Above all, though, THCx is unregulated, leaving the safety and purity completely up in the air.
When you keep in mind the potential potency of THCx, some people may experience uncomfortable side effects such as paranoia, nausea, fatigue, or psychosis.
These side effects tend to be more common for those who aren’t used to THC’s strong psychoactive effects or consume too much THC X at once.
THCx vs. Delta-9 THC
THCx has various similar properties to THC — all while being incredibly different, as well.
When it comes to the differences between THCx and THC, the biggest is creation. As we’ve established, THCx is a synthetic compound. In other words, it is not natural and you cannot naturally find it in the cannabis plant.
Of course, this is not the case for THC.
THC is a completely natural cannabinoid, and you can find it in abundant amounts within cannabis plants. It doesn’t require any chemical intervention to make it.
In terms of potency, some people have reported that THC X appears to feel stronger than regular delta-9 THC. This likely has to do with the way that the cannabinoid is created using so many different D8 elements. But, they both bind with cannabinoid receptors in the same fashion.
The THCx cannabinoid will likely garner a big draw because of the enhanced potency.
But, this also means that you should approach it with caution, consuming only low amounts at first to see how it affects you.
THCx Cannabinoid vs. Other Cannabinoids
We all know that THC isn’t the only popular cannabinoid on the market these days.
To give you a better idea of what the THCx cannabinoid may look or act like, let’s compare it to some other cannabinoids you may be familiar with:
Cannabinoid | Natural or Synthetic | Psychoactivity | Potency (Relative to Delta-9 THC) |
THC-X | Synthetic | Yes | Potentially more potent |
CBD | Natural | No | Non-psychoactive |
Delta-8 THC | Natural | Mildly Psychoactive Effects | Slightly less potent |
Delta-10 THC | Synthetic | Mildly Psychoactive Effects | Slightly less potent |
THCO | Synthetic | Yes | Reportedly more potent |
The legal status of these cannabinoids varies depending on whether they are hemp-derived cannabinoids or not. If they are, they are likely covered by the 2018 Farm Bill and its legalization of hemp plants.
Is THCx Legal?
One of the biggest draws of THCx is the fact that its legality is covered under the 2018 Farm Bill. So, as long as the product is made from hemp plants, yes, THCx is legal in the United States.
As the DEA and other governmental agencies continue to evaluate the legality of THC-derived psychoactive cannabinoids, THCx legal status may change. However, as it stands, the compound is federally legal in the US as long as it doesn’t come from cannabis plants.
So, once it becomes a bit more well-known, you’ll likely start to see this compound pop up from the same places where you can buy delta-8 THC and other cannabis products.
However, as you buy and explore buying THC X products, keep in mind that the legalities are still shaky — just as shaky as regulations. So, you’re purchasing these products at your own risk.
Can I Buy THCx Near Me?
If you’re really interested in buying THCx products, you can find them online. Several popular cannabinoid retailers have begun selling THCx products, primarily vapes and gummies.
But, the chances of you finding them in person in your area are very low.
Buying online is going to be your best bet for finding various options. Just don’t forget to check the product’s third-party lab test results before buying it.
And, if they don’t have these results available, move on — it’s not worth the potential hazards.
