Medical marijuana has been helping people suffering from chronic and severe pain, dealing with mental health issues and other debilitating health conditions for many years.  Wondering if your medical condition qualifies you for a medical card?

Learn everything you need to know about getting a medical marijuana card in Altus, Oklahoma.

Altus, OK Medical Marijuana Cards

When you get approved for a medical marijuana license you’ll receive your card in the mail. This card will have important information about you, including your personal information and your medical marijuana license information. You’ll be allowed to legally buy medical marijuana and THC products at any Altus dispensary.

With your medical card, you are legally allowed to grow medical marijuana in your home. Of course, there are some restrictions and guidelines. You can only grow up to 8 plants and you can not sell or distribute. It is for your personal use.

How to get a medical marijuana card in Altus

To qualify for a medical marijuana card in Altus, Oklahoman you’ll need to be at least 18 or older. If you are under the age of 18 you’ll need to have two physicians sign the Minor Patient Physician Recommendation form, and have at least one caregiver/parent.

The application and payment can be completed through the online system, on the OMMA website at omma.ok.gov. To get started you’ll need a valid email address to register and create an account.

Once you’ve created your account you’ll need to schedule an appointment with a registered doctor. They will need to qualify for your medical condition in order to be approved for your license. You can locate a list of registered physicians on the OMMA website or you can schedule your appointment with Elevate Holistics. Our easy and convenient telehealth appointments with a certified doctor make things simple.

At the completion of your appointment, the doctor will electronically submit the Physician Form to the state. You’ll then be able to complete the application.  Minors and patients that need someone to help them purchase and/or use medical marijuana will need to obtain a caregiver card. You’re allowed up to two caregivers and they must be over 21 years old and a resident of Oklahoma with proof.

It’s important that you have all of the required information to complete the application. If you are missing any information your application will be incomplete and you’ll be sent an email to make the correct changes. This will delay the process.

Be sure you have proof of your Oklahoma residency. Acceptable proof includes an Oklahoma driver’s license, Oklahoma identification card, a current utility bill, Oklahoma voter ID card, residential property deed, or a current rental agreement.

You cannot submit your application without paying the standard non-refundable fee of $100. If you have acceptable proof that you’re 100% disabled veteran, Medicaid (SoonerCare) or Medicare enrollment you can get the fee reduced to $20.

In 14 business days from the time you submitted the application, you’ll receive an approval or denial letter. If you were approved your medical marijuana card will be included and you’ll be able to purchase from any Altus dispensary.

Where can I get a medical card in Altus?

You can start by registering through the OMMA website at omma.ok.gov. Once you register, you can schedule your appointment with a certified doctor. All applications will be submitted electronically to the OMMA website and the doctor will send their certification through the portal as well.

If you have a caregiver they will have to register for their own account and submit an application as well. Only the patient is required to get certified by a doctor.

What are the qualifying conditions?

Oklahoma has a long list of qualifying conditions, however, some are not so easy to determine on your own if they will qualify you to obtain an mmj card. For example, chronic or severe pain, and various types of seizure disorders are clear as to what conditions fall under those categories. Some of the other qualifying medical conditions include severe nausea, terminal illness, muscle spasm, cancer, and anxiety. The only way to know is to get certified by an Oklahoma doctor. They will be able to determine if your condition qualifies you for medical marijuana on the same day as your visit.

How much will it cost for my mmj card?

There is a standard application fee of $100. If you can provide proof that you have Medicaid (SoonerCare) or Medicare enrollment the standard fee will be reduced to $20. You’ll also get a reduced fee if you are a 100% disabled veteran. These fees will need to be paid to submit the application. You can pay by Visa, MasterCard, or Discover credit or debit card. If you are denied approval this payment will not be refunded.

The cost of medical card isn’t your only fee. You’ll also need to pay out of pocket for your cannabis doctor visit. At Elevate Holistics, this in-home telehealth visit will cost between $75 to $150. Our certified Oklahoma doctors offer secure HIPAA-compliant visits without you ever having to leave your home.

Can I buy CBD with my medical card?

Hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD) products can be legally purchased in Oklahoma and you’ll find that there’s a large selection of CBD products to choose from that do not require a medical license. You will, however, need to have a medical card to purchase CBD products that are not derived from hemp. These products contain THC.

Can I grow medical marijuana in Altus?

Yes, you can grow medical marijuana in Altus with your medical marijuana patient card. You are limited to growing 8 plants in your home.

How do I renew my medical card?

You’re required to renew your medical card 60 days prior to the expiration date listed on your card. You’ll need to log into your account with the OMMA website. There is a lengthy video that will walk you through the process of renewing your card.

Most frequently MMJ asked questions

  • Is medical marijuana legal in Oklahoma?

Medical marijuana has been legal in Oklahoma since 2018. This means that patients who have chronic injuries or illnesses can use marijuana with a recommendation from their doctor. To get your Oklahoma marijuanas card, you will need to go through the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority, or OMMA.

Many people wonder how to get a medical marijuanas card in Oklahoma. To do so, you will need to get an approval from your doctor prescribing marijuana as a treatment for a chronic illness, injury, or other health condition. You will also need to collect documents providing proof of residency.

Can you get a medical card under 18 in Oklahoma? The answer is yes, but it must be prescribed by your doctor and you will need to have a caregiver. A caregiver is a family member or an assistant who can go to the dispensary and monitor your medical marijuana use. Patients who are physically unable to visit a dispensary due to their health can also appoint a caregiver.

  • Does Oklahoma have recreational pot?

Since Oklahoma has legalized medical marijuana, many people wonder, is Oklahoma recreational as well? Oklahoma has not legalized recreational marijuana, so only people with a legitimate OMMA card can purchase and use marijuana. If you are caught using marijuana without a medical card, you could be subject to a fine and a misdemeanor charge. If you are caught with large quantities of marijuana or you are caught distributing marijuana, the charges could be even more severe.

  • Can veterans obtain a medical card in Oklahoma?

Yes! You’ll pay $85 and that includes OMMA account set-up. If you’re 100% disabled, you get a steep discount and only pay $22.50 to the state at time of final submission.

  • Will insurance cover the fees involved with the MMJ programs?

Unfortunately no. You do receive a discount when you submit your application to OMMA if you’re on SoonerCare, Medicare, Medicaid, or a 100% disabled veteran.

  • Will patient registration status be made available to the public?

No, you are protected under HIPAA Laws.

  • Am I allowed to grow medical cannabis in Oklahoma?

Yes. Qualified patients will be allowed to grow up to six mature plants in their private residence, in addition to six immature plants (seedlings).

  • Can non-residents get a medical card?

If you don’t live in Oklahoma but are planning on visiting for an extended period of time, you might be interested in getting an Oklahoma out-of-state medical card. Oklahoma is one of the few states that allows non-residents to get medical marijuana cards. The Oklahoma House approved an extension of out-of-state medical cards in February 2021. This extension means that out-of-state medical cards now last for two years. The process of getting an out-of-state medical card is very similar to the process of getting an in-state one.

  • What is OMMA?

The OMMA OK program approves medical cards and manages the distribution of medical marijuana in Oklahoma. OMMA stands for Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority. Most aspects of the OMMA application process are managed online.

  • How long does it take to get an OMMA card?

The OMMA approval time is typically less than 30 days from the time they have received your application. Keep in mind that this does not include the time it takes to go to the doctor and assemble the documents. There are some in which OMMA will ask for additional documentation, which can extend the approval time. Once OMMA has determined the status of your application, you will be notified by mail.
