It's hard for me to really recommend Elevate Holistics because I have had difficulty with My Registration and maneuvering My Way Through The Website. I have been able to communicate with EV's Staff so hopefully tomorrow or Tuesday I will look forward to completing My Registration.

Medical marijuana can be a very effective way to treat chronic physical or mental health conditions. Marijuana has been legal for medical use in Baltimore, Maryland since 2013. Recreational use is still illegal, but the possession of small amounts of marijuana has been decriminalized. Here’s how to get a medical marijuana card in Baltimore – the process is easier than you might think.

Baltimore Medical Marijuana Cards

Many people with chronic health conditions wonder how to get approved for medical marijuana in Baltimore. Elevate Holistics makes it easy to get your medical marijuana card online from the comfort of your home. Appointments are affordable and secure, and once you’ve been approved, you can buy cannabis products from a local Baltimore dispensary. Here’s what you need to know.

Is Medical Marijuana Legal in Baltimore?

Medical marijuana is currently legal in Baltimore and throughout the state of Maryland. Medical marijuana was officially legalized in 2013, although the program was not fully up and running until 2017. Medical marijuana patients must have one of the qualifying medical conditions defined by the state. There have been efforts to fully legalize marijuana in Maryland, but none have been successful yet. However, possession of 10 grams or less has been decriminalized.

How To Get A Medical Marijuana Card

The first step to getting a medical marijuana card in Baltimore is to register online with the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission, or MMCC. You can do this through their official website. The registration consists of filling out a short digital form. You will be given a patient ID number, which you will need for your doctor’s visit.

The next step is to visit a doctor who is registered with the MMCC. Not all doctors are licensed to prescribe medical marijuana in Maryland, so it’s important to make sure that you’re working with a legitimate provider. Elevate Holistics provides online appointments with registered MMCC doctors.

Your doctor will verify that you have one of Maryland’s qualifying conditions and provide a written certification. The doctor will use your patient ID number to submit this certification to the commission online. Once the certification has gone through, the patient can pay Maryland’s $50 fee and print out a temporary medical marijuana card.

Your permanent medical marijuana card will be mailed to you within a few weeks. Your medical marijuana card is valid for three years in Maryland. However, you will need to visit a dispensary and make a purchase within 120 days of the issue date, otherwise your registration is void. You’ll also need to be re-certified by a doctor every year, but you won’t need to pay the fee again.

What Are The Qualifying Conditions?

Many people wonder who can get approval for medical marijuana in Baltimore. In order to get your card, you will need to have one of the qualifying conditions for medical marijuana in Baltimore. Right now, the state has approved medical marijuana for glaucoma, anorexia, cachexia, seizures, PTSD, wasting syndrome, and any type of severe nausea, severe pain, or chronic pain. Additionally, there are provisions for any severe condition that cannot be effectively treated otherwise, but could potentially benefit from the use of cannabis.

The qualifying conditions in Maryland are relatively broad when compared to laws in other states. If you believe that you could benefit from using medical marijuana, it may be worth talking to a doctor to see if you qualify.

What Is The Cost Of A Medical Marijuana Card?

The fee for a medical marijuana card in Maryland is $50. This fee covers the cost of your medical marijuana card for three years. You’ll need to pay this fee at the time of registration in order to receive your temporary card.

Additionally, you’ll need to pay for your visit with a medical marijuana doctor. It’s important to note that insurance plans won’t cover these visits. However, Elevate Holistics offers affordable pricing for online visits with certified medical marijuana doctors. Our visits start at $75.

How Does A Maryland Card Work In Baltimore County?

A Maryland medical marijuana card will work the same way throughout the entire state, including in Baltimore county. When you visit a weed dispensary in Baltimore, you’ll need to bring a state-issued government ID and your medical card. The staff will validate your documents and you will be able to shop for the products you need.

Medical Marijuana Doctors in Baltimore

Elevate Holistics works with Baltimore medical marijuana doctors to help you get the cannabis products that you need. As previously mentioned, not all doctors in Baltimore are registered with the MMCC. When getting your medical marijuana card, it’s very important to make sure that your provider is registered.

This is important for legal reasons, but it’s also important to make sure you get the care that you need. At Elevate Holistics, our doctors are very knowledgeable about cannabis as a medical treatment. They can answer any questions you may have and recommend products and dosages that will work best for you.

Local Marijuana Dispensaries

Wondering where to buy marijuana in Baltimore? You’ll have plenty of choices when it comes to Baltimore dispensaries. There are medically licensed dispensaries located throughout the city and its surrounding suburbs. This includes several dispensaries that are conveniently located near public transportation.

When you visit a dispensary, you’ll need to provide proof of identification and your medical marijuana certification. Once inside, you’ll be able to shop a wide selection of cannabis products, and staff can help you choose the right options for you. Keep in mind that many local dispensaries only accept cash, so come prepared.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

It’s normal to have questions about medical marijuana in Baltimore. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions we get.

Can I Grow My Own Medical Marijuana In Baltimore?

If you are using medical marijuana frequently, it makes sense that you might want to grow it at home. Unfortunately, Maryland’s current laws do not allow you to grow your own marijuana at home. Only licensed marijuana growers can grow their own plants in the Baltimore area. If you are caught growing marijuana illegally in Baltimore, you could be subject to legal penalties. Right now, Maryland law states that unlicensed growing is a felony.

What Are The Possession Limits In Baltimore County?

Marijuana is decriminalized in Maryland, including Baltimore county. This means that possession of less than 10 grams without a medical marijuana card is only a civil offense. It does not come with any jail time and will not go on your record, although you may be charged a fine of up to $100. Possession of more than 10 grams without a medical card is still subject to prosecution.

Those with a medical marijuana card have different possession limits. Those with a medical card can purchase up to 120 grams in cannabis products or 36 grams of THC total within a 30 day period. Right now, edible cannabis products are not available at a marijuana dispensary in Baltimore. In certain cases, a medical marijuana doctor can recommend a higher possession limit for a patient who needs it.

Can I Have A Caregiver in Baltimore?

Medical marijuana patients under the age of 18 are required to have an adult caregiver to purchase marijuana for them. Adult patients who are housebound can also designate a caregiver to purchase medical marijuana for them. Caregivers must also register online through the MMCC website and pay the fee. The patient will still have to see a medical marijuana doctor to get approval. Both the caregiver and the patient will need to have a medical marijuana card.

To be a caregiver for a minor, you must be their parent or legal guardian. Caregivers need to be over the age of 21. Adult patients can designate anyone over the age of 21 as their caregiver.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are Maryland medical cannabis patients and caregivers protected against federal prosecution?

Possession and use of medical cannabis is still a violation of the federal Controlled Substances Act. Your MD MMJ card does not shield you from federal law. However, federal budget legislation since 2014 has consistently blocked the U.S. Department of Justice from interfering with state MMJ programs. It’s even held up in court — for individuals who comply with their state’s laws.

  • Are patients required to pay for a Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission (MMCC) card?

Yes. As of January 1, 2019, all new patients must purchase an MMCC card for $50. They expire in 3 years.

  • Can a medical cannabis patient legally own or possess a firearm?

No. Federal law bars medical cannabis patients from purchasing or possessing firearms. Your patient information with the MMCC is considered confidential and protected. However, the Maryland State Police follow guidelines to ask people trying to purchase firearms if they are an MMJ patient and will bar you from making the transaction if you admit that you are. Providing false information when purchasing a firearm is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of as much as $250,000.

  • How do I get a certification?

A patient needs a visit with a registered provider with whom the patient has a “bona fide provider-patient relationship”. If the patient meets the provider’s criteria, the provider will issue a certification.

Remember, before you see a provider, you must first be registered with MMCC and have received an approval email with your patient ID number, which you will need to take to the provider. It can take 30 days or more to get your approval email after applying.

The provider must be registered before the certification visit. Because of COVID-19, patients may now get certification through telehealth—a video consultation with a registered provider through an online clinic such as Elevate Holistics.

  • What is a “bona fide provider-patient relationship”?

According to Maryland law, it is a treatment or counseling relationship between a provider and a patient in which the provider reviews and assesses the necessary past and present condition of the patient and considers their future treatment program.

  • What do I do after the certification?

You may go to any licensed dispensary to buy medical cannabis.
Using your patient ID number, the provider will enter you into the MMCC database. After you receive your written certification, but before you visit a dispensary, you must print a temporary MMCC ID. Show this to the dispensary. They will check it against the Commission before you can make a transaction.

Medical Cannabis Certification for Maryland

Why Medical Marijuana Doctors are Necessary.

The vast majority of doctors don’t have a great understanding of cannabinoids due to a woefully archaic medical schooling system. In fact, most medical schools don’t even offer classes on the endocannabinoid system! This is the system in the body that interacts with THC, CBD, and other phytocannabinoids in cannabis. Crazy, right? While this is changing, the majority of doctors in America can’t truly point people in the right direction when it comes to cannabis as a medicine. This is where Elevate Holistics comes in by offering you a full staff of healthcare professionals that can take you from CBD to THC, to pharmaceutical interactions, and treatment plans. Make sure to ask your physician and Elevate staff anything on your mind so we can get you the resources you need to Elevate your health naturally.
