ToggleThe cannabis community is full of a lot of jargon: including numbers. First 420, now 710. But, what is 710, and what’s weed got to do with it?
If you’ve been seeing advertisements for 710 at your local dispensary or smokeshop, we’re here to explain.
What is 710? (And What’s Weed Got to Do With it?)
So, what is 710? What does 710 mean in weed? Well, it all depends on how you look at it.
And in this context, there are three common perspectives to hold while looking at it. Firstly, as some sort of anagram or anadrome.
You have to reverse 710 and turn it upside down to reveal the true and relevant meaning. Voila! You now have the word “OIL.”
This symbolism represents and recognizes all cannabis oils and concentrates, which generally contain high amounts of very potent cannabinoids and terpene extracts.
Secondly, as a time — 7:10. In Urban Dictionary, it’s “a time set to the practice of dabbing or vaporizing pure marijuana concentrated oils…”.
Finally, as a date. In which case, it means July 10, and it answers one question: what is 710 day or 710 weed holidays?
The 710 Holiday
The 710 weed holiday occurs annually on July 10. It’s the day the global cannabis community set aside to celebrate these cannabis concentrates and extracts that have been saving lives for ages.
This day is also known as Dab Day, National Dab Day, or Oil Day in some circles. It’s interesting to note that in some countries, such as Brazil, the celebration holds on October 7.
It’s a special day for the cannabis community. Even more remarkable for medical cannabis patients who often rely on the more bioavailable cannabis oils and concentrates rather than flowers to manage their conditions.
So, what is 710 day? Dab Day is simply a day to celebrate everything related to weed concentrates and oils, including paraphernalia.
That said, what is 710 friendly business? What does it mean when someone says they are 710 friendly?
What is 710 Friendly?
“710 friendly” is a phrase used by cannabis concentrate connoisseurs to show that beyond being weed-friendly, they have a more specific interest in weed oils and concentrates.
In the commercial space, the answer to what is 710 friendly takes a slightly different turn. When a business says that it is 710 friendly, it could mean that:
-
- The business, space, or event supports the use or sale of very potent weed products, which usually come in the form of concentrates and extracts.
- The business, space, or event supports the use of smoke-free cannabis products in the form of oils, concentrates, and other dabs.
The History of 710 and How It Came to Be
The history of 710 in the cannabis community is a bit like that of the Greeks and the Unknown God. Everybody who knows what’s what recognizes it, but there is no consensus on its exact origin.
710 became mainstream in the early 2010s, and over a decade later, there are still debates on how it all started.
Irrespective of the seeming mystery behind the history of 710, two stories usually take the last dab as the most likely origin and the first use of 710 in the cannabis industry.
The Mystery Cannabis Oil Marketers
This legend has it that a bunch of individuals were brainstorming how to further mainstream cannabis oils, which were struggling to hit the markets then.
Somewhere along the lines of discussion, all high and with sharp minds, they settled on using 710, which is the word “OIL” reversed and upside down, as the code word for marketing.
TaskRok and the Guys from Healthstone and Beehive
In 2015, Mitchell Colbert interviewed some key players in the cannabis industry to determine the origin of 710 in the cannabis industry.
Most of them pointed to TaskRok of Highly Educated, a cannabis concentrate website that started operations on July 10, 2010, as the originator of 710.
Mitchell then held an interview with TaskRok, who confirmed that 710 came up while he was chatting online with guys from Healthstone and the BeeHiveOil in 2010.
The whole point of the chat was that they no longer resonate with 420 and prefer a new time for taking dabs.
At this point, he suggested 710, an upside-down anadrome for OIL. Instead of owning the creation of 710, TaskRok left it for the community.
While all these led to the gradual popularity of 710, 710 only became mainstream when LA Weekly ran an article titled “710 is the new 420“ on July 10, 2013.
Are 710 and 420 the Same?
Okay, so are 710 and 420 the same? Not in the slightest!
In the cannabis community, 420 refers to everything weed-friendly, as well as a great time and day to sit back, relax, and puff some weed.
That said, what does 710 mean in weed communities? Unlike 420, 710 is more streamlined and niched, focusing on hash oil, concentrates, honey oil, wax, and other forms of potent weed extracts and their paraphernalia.
For people who are for everything weed, 4:20 is the time for a good puff, and April 20 (4/20) is the day to go all out for weed.
For people who choose the much narrower road of concentrates and oils, 7:10 is the time for a good dab, and July 10 is the 710 day.
What is 710 day? The 710 cannabis day is a day set aside for celebrating and consuming cannabis concentrates, including resins, shatter, resin, and wax, among others.
Although 710 only became mainstream about a decade ago, it has garnered close to 10 million hashtags on Instagram, showing outstanding acceptance by the cannabis community.
How to Celebrate 7/10
All you need to celebrate 710 oil day is your dabber tools and favorite cannabis oil. There are also various Dab Day events to check out this year, such as the 10th Annual 710 Dab Day and Teamsters 710 Family Day.
If celebrating on your own, you can join millions of others to smoke or take a dab by 7:10 on 7/10.
How Do You Smoke Dabs?
You can smoke dabs in two ways, but it’s best done with a traditional or electronic rig (e-rig).
Rigs are the cleanest way to smoke dabs. With rigs, you will need a dabber, cotton swabs, water, your concentrate/dab of choice, and torch (for traditional rigs).
Add the desired quantity of concentrate to the dabber, ensure there is enough water in the percolator, and set the temperature (takes about 5-10 seconds in e-rigs). When heated, use the dabber to add the concentrate to your dab nail and allow it to vaporize, then Inhale with your mouth after it has vaporized.
The other way to smoke dab is to mix it with weed and smoke with a pipe.
Types of Dabs
Dabs refer to cannabis concentrates, which usually have between 40% to 90% THC content; hence, they are extremely potent.
The common types of dabs you may find include the following:
-
- Oil: Butane hash oil or butane honey oil (BHO)
- Shatter
- Wax: Budder wax or dab wax
- Live Resin
